Yiannakis Christoforou
The Heroes’ Monument in the community is dedicated to the EOKA hero Yiannakis Christoforou and is located east of the centre of the community, near the old church of Saints Constantinos and Eleni. In particular, the monument consists of a bronze bust placed on granite base which has been created in honour of the hero.

Yiannakis Christoforou was born in our village. At a young age he moved to Nicosia where he became a barber. In fact, he even opened his own barber shop. With the outbreak of the Liberating Fight, he joined the organization of EOKA. He was arrested by the British and was held at the Prison of Kokkinotrimithia, where he was tortured. These tortures led to his death.

It is noteworthy that the construction of the Monument was a result of cooperative efforts made by the Community Council, the Expatriates, the Church Committee and the Youth Centre.

The unveiling ceremony of the Monument will be held by Mr. Loukis Papaphilipou and Mr. Alecos Siambos.
